Disease research requires normal healthy blood samples, plasma, and other biological specimens from patients. These specimens are used to support the development of in vitro diagnostic test kits, treatments, vaccines and cures. Without these specimens, this research could not move forward. PPA is currently recruiting patients with normal, healthy blood to help these research strives with a compensated donation. Normal, healthy blood samples are defined by patients who do not currently have or have a history of acute specialty antibodies brought by infectious disease or chronic specialty antibodies brought by chronic illnesses or autoimmune diseases.
PPA uses donations for research purposes only. There are other blood donation centers and health institutes that use blood donations for immediate use in blood transfusions for human recipients. A majority of patients receiving transfusions only require specific components of blood such as red blood cells, plasma, or platelets, but whole blood transfusions may be necessary for more traumatic circumstances such as patients with extreme blood loss.
